It is common for food businesses to contract pest control to outside companies. This is a convenient way to protect your business from unwanted visitors, but it doesn't remove the obligations a business has. Caterers Choice Food Safety would still recommend that staff on site are trained to spot the signs of pests and to adopt practices that do not encourage pests. There are provisions in our opening & closing checks within food hygiene diaries that help with this. We also have a monthly checklist to look for the signs of pests, within the Documentation File. It only takes a few minutes to carry out the checks and could actually save your business money. If your own staff are sufficiently checking for pests, you only need the pest control company when pests are spotted. Following good hygiene practices set out in our management systems will also make having a pest problem less likely.
